How to enable student ranking and gamify my members area?

The student ranking is a feature available for everyone using Hotmart's members area to deliver content. It’s a great way to motivate students to achieve better results and stay engaged with your content. Along with the ranking, you can gamify your members area to create a more dynamic and motivating environment.

In this article, we'll explain how to enable the ranking, set game and scoring rules, create rewards, and track results using Gamification Analytics.

How does the student ranking work?

The ranking allows your students to earn points by interacting with your content, such as completing classes or participating in communities. Each action has a fixed score: 10 points for each completed class and 1 point for each interaction in the community, such as comments, replies, or reactions.

When students consume content in the members area, they can view the top five users with the highest accumulated scores. This is the current limit for ranking visibility, which is updated once a day.

To enable the ranking in your members area, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Hotmart account at https://app.hotmart.com/.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select Products.
  3. Click on Members area and choose the members area where you want to enable the ranking.
  4. In the side menu, click Gamification.
  5. Click Publish to start tracking the scores.

How to set up gamification scoring?

Hotmart provides a default point system for actions performed in the members area, but you can also customize these rules according to your strategy whenever you like.

To customize the scoring, follow the steps below:

  1. Within the members area you want to configure, click on Gamification in the left-side menu.
  2. Locate the Scoring logic section and click Edit.
  3. On the new screen, you will find the pre-defined scoring rules set by our system.
  4. Click the three dots next to the action you want to configure and select Edit to change the score or Delete to delete that action.
  5. After making changes, click Publish.

After following these steps, your students will have personalized scores based on your preferences. However, remember: changes will only affect new scores and won’t alter the history of previous achievements or points already earned by your students.

How to set up game rules?

In addition to enabling the ranking and creating scoring rules, you can also set specific rules for your game. When you access the gamification page in your members area, you will see that the game definitions are pre-filled with the default rules set by Hotmart. However, you can customize them according to your strategy.

To customize the game rules, follow these steps:

  1. Within the members area you want to configure, click on Gamification in the left-side menu.
  2. Locate the Rules section and click Edit.
  3. On the editing screen, you can:
    • Define the game rules: Write an introductory text about your game rules, giving all the details to keep your students engaged. Remember to provide the text in other languages if you make international sales.
    • Create tiebreaking criteria: Define the criteria for breaking ties, in case your students have the same score.
    • Set score visibility: Choose whether or not to display the number of points in the general ranking. If you hide the points, the top 5 rankings will still be visible, but each student will only see their own score.
  4. After making the changes, click Publish.

Remember to detail the dynamics and rules of your game to your students as much as possible. This way, they will understand exactly how the game works and will be more actively involved with the strategy you've set for your business.

How to register rewards for students?

Rewards are a great way to recognize the efforts of the most engaged students. You can create up to 50 prizes of different types, such as discount coupons, physical products at special prices, e-books, or even mentorships.

We recommend creating different reward levels, so students can quickly earn smaller prizes while staying motivated to aim for more valuable rewards as they accumulate more points.

To register a reward, follow these steps:

  1. Within the members area you want to configure, click on Gamification in the left-side menu.
  2. Locate the Rewards section and click Register.
  3. On the new screen, you can add the reward details, such as the name, description, access link, and the number of points required for redemption.
  4. To finish, click Save.

Once you've registered your rewards, you can click the three-dot menu on each card to view options to edit or delete the selected reward. But remember, if you choose to edit a reward, the changes may not apply to all users. For example, if you increase the number of points required for a reward, students who have already earned it will still have access to that reward.

How to track student ranking data?

In addition to the ranking and gamification features in the members area, Hotmart also offers Gamification Analytics, a tool that allows you to track ranking data and understand how your students are interacting with the gamified content. While the ranking is updated once a day, the data in Gamification Analytics is updated in real-time.

With Gamification Analytics, you can gain valuable insights to adjust your strategies and keep students engaged. The real-time data allows for a more precise and immediate analysis of student interactions.

To access Gamification Analytics, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Hotmart account via this link: https://app.hotmart.com/.
  2. Click on Products and then Members area.
  3. Select the members area you want to track the data for. 
  4. In the side menu, click on Analytics.
  5. Then, select the Gamification tab.

By default, the Analytics displays data from the last 30 days. If you want to view a specific period, such as the overall ranking since the gamification started or just the previous month, simply adjust the date filter.
