How to set up an online course?

Transforming your knowledge into an online course is a fantastic way to reach new audiences and expand your impact. Hotmart provides all the tools you need to create and sell your course with ease. 

In this guide, we’ll walk you through each step to ensure your course is ready to generate sales and boost your business.

Creating an online course

Follow these steps to set up your online course:

  1. Log in to your Hotmart account at https://app.hotmart.com. If you don’t have an account yet, create one by following the steps in this article.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Products, then select My products.
  3. In the upper right corner, click + Create product.
  4. On the new screen, choose Online course as your product format.

Adding course information

After selecting the course format, you’ll be redirected to a new page. Here, complete the fields in the Information section:

  • Course name: choose an attractive name for your course.
  • Description: provide a detailed description for potential buyers (minimum of 200 characters).
  • Product image: upload an image in JPG, PNG, or GIF format (maximum 5 MB).
  • Additional information: select the language, category, and market for your course.

Once you’ve filled out this information, click Next.

Pricing your course

In the Pricing section, define the financial details of your course:

  • Currency: select the currency in which your course will be sold.
  • Guarantee: set the refund period for your students (7, 15, 21, or 30 days).
  • Payment method: choose between one-time payment, installment payment with fees, or installment payment without fees for the customer. If you opt for installments, set the maximum number of installments.
  • Currency conversion: choose whether to enable currency conversion for international sales.

After completing all the fields, click Next.

Adding the course to a members area

In the Members Area section, decide where your course will be hosted:

  • Add to an existing Club: select this option if you want to add your course to an already existing Club.
  • Create a new Club: if you don’t have a Club or want to create a new one, click + Create Hotmart Club, then enter the name and customized URL for your Club.
  • External members area: if you prefer to host the course outside of Hotmart Club, click Switch to an external members area and provide the necessary details (link, name, and student access password).

After making your selection, click Next.

Adding course content

Next, you’ll be taken to the Content page. Here, you’ll indicate whether you already have the content for your course:

  • If you select No, I don't have content yet, you’ll need to add a description or a file outlining your course schedule.
  • If you choose Yes, I have the content, click Add content. A new page will open where you can upload the file for at least one paid module, enter the content author, and then click Publish. Once you’ve published at least one module, return to complete the remaining steps.

When you’re done, click Next.

Setting up sales pages

In the Product page section, choose where your course will be sold:

  • Hotmart Marketplace: a sales page for your course will be automatically created on the Hotmart Marketplace.
  • Create a customized sales page: use the Hotmart Extensions tool (available in Portuguese) to create a custom sales page.
  • External page: if you already have a sales page hosted elsewhere, link it to your product so that the Hotlink directs to that page.

After selecting the option that best suits your needs, click Next.

 

Reviewing personal information and Terms of Use

In the Personal information section, finalize your registration by confirming your personal details. Then, in the Terms of Use section, review the terms to understand your responsibilities and the rules for registering a product on our platform.

Check the box to confirm you’ve read and agree to the terms, then click Next.

 

Completion and verification

Once you’ve completed all the steps, your course will be registered and go through a verification process. This typically takes about 15 minutes, though it can take up to one business day in some cases. During this time, you can continue setting up your content and sales pages in the editing panel.

When verification is complete, your course will be ready for sales!
