How do I configure the Early Subscription Renewal tool? (beta)

With the Early Renewal tool, you can allow your subscribers to extend their access even before their current plan expires, offering exclusive discounts or the option to purchase the next cycle right at the initial checkout (via Order Bump). This guarantees upfront revenue for you and continuous convenience for your student.

In this article, you will understand the rules for early renewal and learn about the different formats available to offer it.

What is early subscription renewal?

Early Renewal allows you to offer your subscribers the opportunity to pay for their next subscription cycle (future recurring payments) in advance. In exchange for this advance payment, you can (optionally) grant discounts and define how many recurring payments you want to advance.

It differs from a simple installment advance: you are not advancing payments for a student who wants to cancel. The objective here is to guarantee the purchase of a new, full period, extending their subscription time.

You can apply the Early Renewal Retention Strategy in 3 formats:

  1. Renewal by invitation: via direct links sent to your student base.
  2. On the checkout page (Order Bump): right when the student is subscribing to the product.
  3. In the Sales Funnel (One Click Buy): as an additional step in the purchasing flow.
What are the general tool and commissioning rules?
  • Upon receiving an early renewal payment, the full amount of the renewal will be made available to you according to Hotmart's commercial rules.
  • If your plan has a set charge limit (maximum cycle) and the customer buys a renewal that exceeds this limit, the system will extend the subscription's access duration.
  • For monthly plan renewal offers advancing more than 1 payment, the system will allow installment payments according to the number of recurring cycles (e.g., 3 recurring payments can be split into up to 3 installments). Limits respect minimum value and maximum installment quantity rules.
  • The buyer can use any active payment method on their subscription (Credit Card, Pix, Boleto, etc.).
  • During the advance-paid cycle, the subscriber cannot switch plans. This will only be possible after the advance-paid period ends.
  • Affiliate Commissioning: Payment will align with the early renewal. If the creator advances 2 recurring payments, the affiliate will receive those commissions all at once and will go 2 recurring cycles without receiving commission.
  • Just like a standard renewal, Early Renewals cannot be refunded by the buyer.
  • Traditional discount coupons cannot be applied in conjunction with Early Renewal.
  • The main offer must be active and valid for the renewal to work properly.

How do I configure early renewal by invitation?

In this format, you create a special offer and send it directly to your students' email addresses (for both active or overdue subscriptions).

  1. On the Hotmart platform, go to the Tools menu.
  2. Click Retention Strategies.
  3. Select the option to create your renewal offer.
  4. Define the product, plan, offer, target audience (who will receive the invitation), the number of recurring payments to be advanced, and whether a discount will apply.
  5. If desired, set an expiration date for this proposal.
  6. Once configured, the subscriber will receive the link by email and complete the payment on Hotmart's checkout using the available options in your offer.
What are the rules for renewal by invitation?
  • The link sent by email is unique and non-transferable. The email is the validation parameter; if the customer shares the link with someone outside the eligible list, the payment will not go through.
  • Payment is made directly on Hotmart's checkout, using all payment methods configured in the offer.
  • You can set a name and an expiration date for each proposal. If you do not set a deadline, it will remain valid until you cancel it manually.
  • Subscriptions in a trial period are not eligible to receive the invitation.
  • If the subscription is overdue and the student pays for the proposal, the system will reactivate the subscription, bringing its status back up to date.

How do I offer early renewal alongside the main product (Order Bump)?

Many creators like to take advantage of the purchase moment to offer next year's renewal at a discount. This is done directly on your customized checkout page.

  1. Go to Tools in the side menu.
  2. Click Checkout Builder.
  3. Choose the specific checkout page for the offer you want.
  4. Configure the Early Renewal tool similarly to an Order Bump.
  5. Set discount parameters, if desired.

Attention: You cannot select a subscription product and enable early renewal for a different product. The renewal Order Bump must strictly belong to the offer being purchased on the page.

0 What are the rules for renewal on the checkout page?
  • The early renewal must strictly correspond to the same product as the main offer. You cannot sell a subscription for one product and offer the renewal of a different product on the same checkout.
  • After creating the checkout page with this feature, you cannot edit the renewal details. To change information, you must delete the current setup and recreate the strategy.
  • If the renewal purchase occurs via asynchronous payment (e.g., Boleto) and clears before the main subscription, the renewal refund will occur automatically if the main subscription is not finalized.
  • If the first payment commission (sign-up) differs from the recurring commissions, the advanced periods will be paid based on the sign-up commission value.
  • In this scenario (Main subscription + Renewal Order Bump), discount coupons cannot be used on the checkout page.

How do I offer early renewal via Sales Funnel?

If your sales process requires continuous steps, you can insert this strategy into the One Click Buy flow.

  1. Go to the Tools menu.
  2. Select Sales Funnel.
  3. Select or create a funnel that is strictly for a subscription product.
  4. On the decision line ("Yes" or "No"), configure the Early Renewal offer.
What are the rules for renewal in the Sales Funnel?
  • The funnel must strictly belong to a subscription product.
  • You can configure only one early renewal offer per decision line (e.g., one on the accept line and another on the decline line).
  • Extra discount coupons cannot be applied, as the discount configured within the tool already serves as the offer's benefit.
  • Commissioning rules follow the same standard: if there is a percentage difference between the initial charge and subsequent ones, the affiliate will receive the initial value during the advanced period.

How do I track early renewal results?

Monitoring how your students adopt the renewal strategy is simple and can be done in two ways:

  • For Invitation Strategy: Go to Tools Retention Strategies. In this dashboard, you can view conversion numbers, total revenue generated, and a list of which subscribers accepted or declined the offer.
  • For an overall sales view: Go to Sales My Sales. Select Export and choose Detailed Model. In the generated spreadsheet, there will be a specific column indicating whether the transaction corresponds to an Early Renewal and which format was used.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to change the main offer's price to use early renewal?

No. Early renewal has its own discount settings, if you choose to use them. If you need to change your main product's price for new subscribers, existing students will not experience changes to their current charges unless you make a plan-change offer or send an early renewal proposal.

How do I send the correct link for the student to renew without creating a duplicate subscription?

In the "Renewal by Invitation" strategy, you define the conditions (under Tools Retention Strategies) and the system itself sends the eligible email with a unique link to the customer. If you try to send the standard link from your main checkout, the student will end up creating a new parallel subscription to the one they already have.

Can students use a discount coupon on an early renewal?

Traditional discount coupons cannot be applied on the checkout page together with Early Renewal (whether in invitation or Order Bump format). If you want to offer a discount to incentivize renewal, it must be configured directly within the Early Renewal tool during setup.
