For purchases made from Venezuela, the payment page is enabled for payments by credit card issued by a foreign bank, in U.S. dollars (USD).
In this article, you’ll learn which payment methods are available for purchases made in Venezuela and why other payment methods or currencies do not appear at checkout.
Which payment methods are available in Venezuela?
Currently, the payment method available for purchases made from Venezuela is:
credit card issued by a foreign bank, with payment in U.S. dollars (USD).
For the payment to be processed, the following requirements must be met:
the card must have been issued by a bank outside Venezuela;
the payment must be made in U.S. dollars (USD);
the card must be a credit card.
Cards issued by Venezuelan banks are not accepted, even if they have a Visa or Mastercard brand. In this case, payment availability is determined by the card-issuing bank, not only by the card brand.
Why other payment methods are unavailable
Other payment methods and currencies are not currently available for purchases made from Venezuela due to restrictions that apply to commercial and financial operations in the country.
These restrictions are related to economic sanctions administered by OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), the U.S. government agency responsible for sanctions programs. OFAC states that it administers different sanctions programs, which may include asset blocking and trade restrictions, and maintains a specific program related to Venezuela.
