Hotmart offers different payment methods to make purchasing digital products easier. One of them is Intelligent Installment, which allows you to split the purchase amount into monthly installments without using up your entire available credit card limit.
Intelligent Installment is not available for purchases made in Brazilian Real (BRL), Colombian Peso (COP), Chilean Peso (CLP), Mexican Peso (MXN), and Peruvian Sol (PEN). In these currencies, when available, installment payments are handled directly by the credit card issuing financial institution.
In this article, you will understand how Intelligent Installment works, what the differences are compared to a subscription, and learn the main rules of this payment method.
What is Intelligent Installment?
Intelligent Installment is a payment method that allows you to divide the cost of a purchase into monthly installments. Unlike traditional credit card installment plans, the total purchase amount does not occupy the available credit limit at the time the transaction is approved.
Instead, each installment is charged individually to the card used during the purchase, always on the same date each month until the product payment is completed.
This method expands payment options for buyers who do not have enough credit limit to pay the full amount at once or who live in countries where traditional credit card installment plans are not available.
Example
Imagine a product costs US$ 200, but you don't have enough credit limit on your card to pay this amount in full or to split it through your bank.
If the Producer offers Intelligent Installment, it will be possible to divide this amount into monthly installments. Each month, a new charge will be made to the card provided at purchase until all installments are paid.
What is the difference between Intelligent Installment and a subscription?
Although both involve recurring charges, they operate differently.
When you choose Intelligent Installment, you purchase a product and commit to paying a fixed number of installments until the total purchase amount is paid off.
In a subscription, you authorize recurring charges while the plan remains active. Cancellation can be requested at any time, according to the subscription rules.
Check out the main differences:
| Intelligent Installment | Subscription |
| You commit to paying a fixed number of installments. | You authorize recurring charges while the subscription remains active. |
| If there is a payment delay, access to the product will be blocked. If two or more installments are overdue, you must pay all of them to regain access. | If there is a delay, access will also be blocked. Access is restored after payment of the charge for the current period. |
| Installments are charged monthly, always on the same date, until the contracted plan is completed. | Charges can be weekly, monthly, semiannual, or annual, as defined by the Producer. |
| Pending installments can only be canceled during the initial purchase guarantee period. After this period, you must complete payment of all remaining installments. | The subscription can be canceled at any time. Refunds, when applicable, are subject to the initial purchase guarantee period. |
